Songs of Light and Dark / Canciones de luz y sombra

A small ensemble of Tactus SF travels to Salt Lake City this summer for CLAROSCURO, a program exploring the interplay of light and shadow through the musical world of Renaissance Spain.

Inspired by the artistic idea of claroscuro — the interplay of light and shadow — the program brings together music that was composed, performed, and cherished in Renaissance Spain, from the songs of Juan del Encina and the Basque composer Juan de Anchieta to the masterful works of Francisco Guerrero. Alongside these are masterpieces by Josquin, Andrea Gabrieli, and William Byrd, whose music was likewise heard on the Iberian Peninsula. The Salt Lake City concerts mark the debut of a program that will later find a fitting home in the landscapes that inspired it.
